New Theatre, King St, Newtown

In 1932 the New Theatre (then the Sydney Workers Art Club on Pitt Street) opened with the slogan “Art is a Weapon”. Since then some 550 plays have been performed here on important political and human rights issues, making it one of Australia’s oldest continuously producing theatres.
